FC Diablos Split Their First Two Matches of the 2022 Season

This past week, FC Diablos picked up a win and a loss in their first week of the 2022 Midwest Premier League play.

In their season and home opener on May 21st, the Diablos were able to earn three points in a 2-1 win against Rockford FC at Fred Carlton Field.

Rockford FC had their first match of the season on May 18th, which they lost 2-0 versus RWB Adria.

While the Diablos and the Gears were both itching to play, Rockford FC was on the board first with a goal by Poe Reh in the 9th minute. The Diablos were eager to even the score in front of their home crowd.

After subbing in in the 34th minute, left winger Ryan Woodside quickly made an impact and buried a goal to tie the score at 1 in the 37th minute.

The score remained 1-1 up until the 73rd minute when right winger Cristian Bregu slotted home the second goal for the Diablos. Tension remained high for the remainder of the match, and in a last minute effort to score, the Gears took multiple shots yet their actions did not prevail. FC Diablos solidified the win and three points.

Coming off a 2-1 victory, the Diablos were hoping to earn their second straight Midwest Premier League win against RWB Adria.

Diablos’ goalkeeper Ryan Ash had a tremendous penalty kick save early on, but it was not enough to slow down Adria’s momentum. They scored twice in the first half and again just five minutes into the second half.

After being shut out in the first 45, FC Diablos were hoping to make a comeback, however they had a much similar second half. They ended the game without taking a shot. RWB Adria was able to come away with a 3-0 win, securing three points and earning them the top spot of MPL West Conference standings.

The Diablos look to get back in the win column with upcoming matches versus Chicago City SC on May 29 at 7p.m., and then again on June 5, at home, against Dekalb County United at 7p.m.
